Tom of Finland

(Touko Laaksonen 1920-1991)
Tom of Finland is the most widely known Finnish graphic artist of the 20th century. His iconographic importance is about to be fully appreciated. Tom of Finland shaped the perception and self-perception of gays in the second half of the 20th century more than any other artist and influenced leading artists like Andy Warhol, Robert Mapplethorpe, Pierre et Gilles and countless film makers.
